i really like the power of words. i also really appreciate a good poem or a lyrically and musically good song. i used to write poetry all the time, poetry that at one point i intended to make into song of some sort. that never happened, but i want to get back into writing free verse. here's the first draft of a new one. it's not great, but it is an expression of where i am in life and what i feel.

live. run. look ahead.

free to live
free to run
free to trust
free to be hurt and know that something better is to come

i do hurt
i do long
i want more

eyes set to what the future holds
living in the present
but living for what is to come

knowing what i truly want will never be fulfilled in the here and now
i was made for more than this
and yet, i was also made for this

live and run the race well
the prize is still to come
i long for the day of reward
more and more with every day of waiting
