Here are a few favorites:

Helen Levitt-she has a real gift for capturing the life and spirit of the city in her pictures. I am continually amazed at the vibrance present in her pictures. Additionally, she has such a good eye for interesting detail, like a random sign chalked on a street corner. She is also great at capturing moments, at capturing the essence of the world around her, or the essence of people in her pictures-through expressive faces and gestures.

The Sartorialist, aka Scott Schuman-basically Schuman photographs people in cool clothes, clothes that I would say capture personality, place, and lifestyle. I really like how his photographs seem to speak to the artistic character of his subjects, just by the way that they are dressed. I also really like the diversity of Schuman's subjects, which has been steadily increasing since he started his blogging journey. Like with Levitt's work, I appreciate the "real" quality of Schuman's pictures. He doesn't try to create a moment, atleast it seems that he doesn't; additionally, his photos aren't over-edited, with subjects whose imperfections are glossed over electronically. Instead, Schuman photographs real people with real lives who are using fashion as a means of expression in their day to day experiences. I like that.
