A Conversation

Waves dancing along the delicate shore
Patterned rhythm of nighttime critters chirping
Six lights from the pier afar illuminate the darkness
In the late hours, after the neighbors' parties cease, and living room lights expire
A stillness is felt
The pulsing heartbeat of daytime exuberance slows to a pitter patter
Feathery clouds and fresh-cut diamond stars illuminate the sky

Slight breeze scattering the mosquitos, and tousles my hair as I sit here and enjoy the experience of being
Here is found the melody of nature, the pleasure of stillness, the joy of rest.

Breathe it in deep, and listen for herein lies your answer.
Speak into the darkness and I will listen.
Cast your cares upon the shores.
Shed your tears on the breeze's embrace.
Open your ears for I am speaking.

The story is the same as centuries old
The world keeps spinning even as you sleep, waves continue to pound, sun rises and sets quite without you.
And yet you are here, a part of the glorious creation.

Are you listening?
See that glimmer in the clouds? I made it.
Hear that rush in the distance? It is mine; I am well acquainted with its patterns-the going out and coming in-in both rhythmic and interrupted pulses of energy.
Just as I am acquainted with you
not only the hairs on your head but the path before you and the one behind.

You beg for a resolution, but it is already here.
You lament the brokenness, fair claim, but can you imagine all things made new?
No really, can you?

As you taste the day's lingering heat can you imagine a more perfect harmony?
Broken things restored, tearing back the earth's very crust to spring wells of living water?
Thirst quenched as even now you taste salt and bitterness on the tip of your tongue?

You pray, but so much without taking time to consider the deepest, most fundamental things that make you human.
You question, but do not wait for the answer.
You fume angry impatience, but do not care to linger for what can only come with time.

Okay, I'm listening now. Can we talk?

Been trying all along, you've just been moving too quickly to listen. But, let's forget the past, I have many things to show you.
