Broken Reality, but Hope
he plays the notes
a song of hurt and pain
of love lost
but longed for
she feels his sorrow stream across the room
into her soul
more than an echo
but a deep, heartfelt sentiment
creeps softly into her being
and in this moment she is made to feel alive again
she feels it too
she knows that feeling
that deep, moving ache
to simply close the door on such pain
and forget
would be too easy
too artificial
and so they talk
hearts pulsing through unsteady words
seeking to be real
and to know
both just long for a friend
a close friend
who will remain close and not let them down
someone who will rub away the intense hurt
replacing it with sheer, beautiful, self-sacrificing love
they long for the one who says that sacrifice is worth it
that working to make something good is worth it
that having a partner in this thing called life is worth it
they know that hardships will come
this is real, and true
both have seen it
but they know that going the hardships alone
is not what they desire
does it cheapen their individuality?
or, rather, scream of the human reality?
that they are
so desperately in need of
and yet, created for
community
closeness
oneness
and so, we all long
glimpes of a better, fuller tomorrow.
