Good movies do exist

Good movies DO exist! Tonight I went to see the movie "Son of Rambow," which was killer!

Here's why I liked it:

1) the plot was well-developed and not contrived/too happy go lucky. it spoke about reality.

2) the main character, William Proudfoot, uses his imagination all the time, loves drawing and creating things, and has big dreams

3) there was a bigger storyline - beyond the kids drama - that told the tale of a family struggling to discern their identity in the midst of a strict religious upbringing

4) the music was clutch. and yes, i used the word clutch. there was some awesome '80s brit-pop in there as well as a few modern indie/alt rock songs that i have heard before and liked.

5) the movie also provided an interesting commentary on schooling/education

6) the movie was clean, and looked relatively low-budget, but was well-done in my view...immediately after starting to watch the film, i noticed that the filmmaker paid particular attention to camera-work and little details like sound/small motions by the characters (for eg. there is a point where William glides a pinecone along the heater and then takes a sip of water from a water fountain that I really like)

7) I felt like a child again as I tasted William's adventures and experienced his personal struggle to "be a good kid"

Go see it if you haven't. I highly recommend it. My favorite scene may be the one with the flying dog kite :)
